Clark Road
The project on Clark was such a wonderful transformation! This 1920’s craftsman style home had so much character to work with, but the homeowner really felt the kitchen was not functioning the way they needed it to anymore. The cabinets were old and the there was a soffit above that was taking away from valuable space above. Additionally, there was a wall that closed off the kitchen from dining room and was preventing a tremendous amount of natural light from coming into the kitchen. Our goal was not only to open up and combine these two spaces, but to make this kitchen feel as if it had always been a part of the house. Once the wall between the kitchen and dining was removed, we continued the existing hardwood flooring in the dining room into the kitchen. We removed the soffit above the cabinets in order to utilize that valuable wall space and the homeowner had the existing kitchen window replaced with a new one. We chose a stain color for the cabinetry that was close to the stain on the existing trim work found throughout the rest of the home and did a custom stain match for the new trim around the window as well. A shaker style, inset cabinet was the design of choice to call to that craftsman style feel. Our customer wanted to a painted island in Sage Green to brighten the space. This island houses a prep sink, trash cabinet and additional cabinets with rollout shelves inside on the dining side, and still offers an overhang for seating. The custom tile above the cooktop was another inspiration for the project. This beautiful Italian tile was a call back to some favored fine china owned by the homeowner. It made for a beautiful focal point in this kitchen. The remaining backsplash was finished in a pillowed white subway tile that met seamlessly with a soft veined quartz countertop. Finishing touches of inner and under cabinet lighting and beautiful pendants above the island were just what the space needed to enhance and illuminate a newly updated and well functioning space.
